FACTS ABOUT DUNEDIN Dunedin is on the east coast of the south island of NZ. Maori were the first people to find NZ. Dunedin's Maori name Otepoti! The centre of the city is called the octagon because it is shaped like one. Dunedin is placed on hills and valley surrounding the head of the Otago harbour. The harbour and hills are the remanets of an extinct volcano.
